Hetty Feather

Unlike Jacqueline Wuilson's other books, this book is set in the past. It's about a feisty young girl in the 1800s who was abandoned by her mum when she was a baby.

Hetty is left at the Foundling Hospital, in London, a place that cares for adandoned children and teaches them to be servants. But baby Hetty is too small to start school so she is sent to live with a foster family untilshe is six.

Life in the country is tough but Hetty spends her time with her foster brothers Jem andGideon playing imaginary games.

Together they sneak off to visit the travelling circus and Hetty is mesmerised by Madame Adeline and her preforming horses. But Hetty's happy chilhood is shattered when she is forced to return to the Foudling Hostital.

The new life of awful uniform and terrible food is a struggle for her . But now she has the chance to find her real mother.

Could her mother be the wonderful circus performer she met all those years ago? Or will the truth is even more suurprising?

The main is of course Hetty Feather! She's very similar to Jaqueline Wilson's famous character Tracy Beaker- they are both feisty, stick up for their friends and won't take no for an answer.

The Ruby in the Smoke

This book was written by Philip Pullman, the story is set in Victorian London. It talk about the life of a character called Sally Lockart. Her father drowns at sea and she receives a strange letter sent by an unknowned person. Sally then finds the person that sent the letter, but he is traped by an evil women who is trying to get information out of him. The evil women is after a giant ruby worth thousand and thousand of pounds. So Sally is determined to find it before her.

I thought his book was a great book because it has a mixture of genres. It has a bit of horror, adventure and detective. It has alot of different characters and Sally is a very insteresting character because she's nothing that you expected her to be. It had a very clever ending you would of never expected that and you never know what is going to happen next. Its one of thoses books that you never want to put down because it just gets better and better.

My favourite character was the devil women because for Victorian london she has so much athourity and is so unbeleivably cruel and you would never have thought of something so mean to do to somebody. She is very interesting because she strated of pretty but then became ugly because of all of her evil thoughts. She is a very deternmind person and allways make sure she gets her way.

I would give this book 5 star rating because you allways want to read more and has the most amazing plot. It is totally amazing there are no words to describe it.

I STRONGLY RECOMEND IT!!!!

It is very educationnal and teachs us alot of thing that roman people used to do.It use alot of words that roman people used like tonga was what they used to wear and includes alot of famous people and famous places. I really liked the way that they talk about alot of different myst.
